Edison vs. Tesla
In attempt to prove that alternating current was too dangerous for household
use, Thomas Edison sought ways to demonstrate his point to the public, killing
animals and finally inventing the alternating current electric chair. Nikola
Tesla, meanwhile, was demonstrating alternating current's safety. Eventually
Tesla got the financial backing of George Westinghouse and secured the rights
to harness Niagara Falls with a power generator. Tesla, not Edison, actually
is responsible for the electric power system we know today.
